Mimicking Nature: The Chickadee
Great memories of the abundance. Proper attire. The ability to commune with other bird species. A few things the Chickadee can teach us about weathering winter.
The falling snow. The whistling wind. My beating heart. My breath. Then the “Chicka-dee-dee-dee” call of the chickadee. These are the sounds of winter in January on a clear day when the temps reach into the 20s. I have long seen the chickadee as a sign of resilience. A sign of just how to weather the harshest of days. They do not leave despite their tiny size. They stay. They have learned to thrive in the frozen world that they wouldn’t fathom leaving.
What can we learn from the chickadee’s way of adapting and designing to exist even in January in a northern climate? Is there something we can learn from their adapted skills that will help us be lighter in our enjoyment of winter? I believe so!
