How to Pay Attention This Week
The lines of the shadows on our wall are marks of the changing days before us
In the last few weeks in the Garden Planning Intensive, I have talked about sunlight. The motion of the sun in the sky and how to know where it will move so even in the dead of winter when the leaves aren’t leafed, and the sun is low to the south, we can plan our garden properly. In all that discussion of the sun, it has made me more aware of how the light REALLY is shifting.
There is always a point where it feels major in the sky suddenly. The mornings become brighter once again, the evenings are lighter as well, and it’s as if you can taste the energy shifting in the air as the planet shifts and the northern Hemisphere turns toward the sun once again.
I love watching and paying attention to this, but not just in the way it makes the house feel brighter and our days more energy-filled. I also love to take note of the tiny ways it adjusts our well-being. Suddenly, our minds change gears even though nothing has been specifically made clear.
This week, that’s what we are here to do. How can we watch how the shadows change on the wall and what time of day happens? How can we listen to the tiny ways this brings us a different energy? How does this change our feelings about life? All these things are here for our attention if we are willing to listen and prioritize it.
